Hi,
Irrespective of the type of device ( Transistor or FET or MOSFET ) used for differential application, the matching of their characteristic is important to ensure that they produce equal output for tha same voltage ( common mode input) applied to its input so that the differential output remains zero for a common mode input. Also, the drift of parameters with respect to time, temperature etc., if matched will ensure that the common mode gain does not drift over time.
Hence the importance of matching of individual characteristics of the componenets used.
