laser driver ac coupling

Hi everyone .
What's the difference when AC couple and DC couple use in laser driver design?
From a textbook i read, when DC couple is used, the laser's bias current is
Ibias , however ,AC couple is used, the laser's bias current has to be 1.5Ibias.
why????
