Hi,

I am working on peak current mode Buck converter. Can someone please tell me the reason for the need of softstart and how it can be designed on chip without using external components.

Thanks & Regards,

Re: Soft Start

soft start --> prevent high inrush current in inductor
There are many different methods introducing softstart.
1. ramp up the vref
2. introducing fixed pulse width pulse before the converter goes to predefined value. After it, enable the PWM modulation.

Hopes it can help you

Re: Soft Start

Hi ee_ykhab,

Can you please elaborate more on the second method of yours for soft start. Also does the DC gain of the system has anything to do with inrush current?

Thanks & Regards,
Prasad
