7 segments lcd

I have an LCD passive display with 23 pins and 8 7-seg digits plus point and some other symbols.
I don't know the connection table but I try to find out. I will interface it with a micro 16F916 or 917 with support for LCD but it has only 4 commons. How can I drive the LCD ? With multiplexing each digit has a common and all the same segments (a,b,c,....) are connected together? In this case I suppose it is required to have 8 commons. But the micro has only 4 commons. How can I drive it?
