Why 12V 1A power source burned 555 IC ?

HI FRIENDS
I HAVE A WALL ADAPTER OF 12V 1AMPS.I USED THIS SOURCE TO POWER MY 555 IC MONOSTABLE CIRCUIT.IT BURNT THE CHIP.HOW CAN I USE THIS POWER SOURCE TO POWER THE CICUIT

as far as i know 555 IC can withstand 12V... i doubt that there might have been a short....

I think you have made wrong connection, i.e. you connect +ive to -ive and vice versa. Check it.
