What are the key advantages and disadvantages of printed planar monopole and vertical monpole with ground planes in terms of use, cost characteristics. Since coplanar and microstirp based UWB antenna are very small in size then why we need vertical antennas with ground plane.

As a rule, electrically small antennas are not particularly efficient. PCB antennas are usually less expensive and often smaller while a monopole on a ground plane which usually has higher gain and more stable pattern characteristics.
