what do you think about this board?
https://www.xilinx.com/univ/xupv2p.html

i have money for it and i can afford it.

question is, will it give me a lot of experience? or it will be unusefull after year or two, as the technology grows? how many things can i do with it? (except those application notes on their website)

can i run my own written Real Time OS there? and control HDD with this?
can i make it like my own PC with Real time OS? what else?

thanks

Re: XUP Virtex-II Pro Development Board...to buy or not to b

normally there will be soon the launch of a new XUP board with a Virtex 5 on it, maybe you can wait for thatone?

Re: XUP Virtex-II Pro Development Board...to buy or not to b

In my opion, you should buy this card instead of waiting for the new one who will be launched. Avec V2Pro, you can do many things and also this card is very cheap (300$) in comparision with the commercial price ($1600). (If you prove that you are at university or the purpose is research).

Re: XUP Virtex-II Pro Development Board...to buy or not to b

Anything you program in V2p
would do V5.
The main differences are maximum clock frequencies,
energy consumptions,
and built-in RAM volumes.
(but onboard memory with V5 may be much higher,
that is substantial for some serious applications)
Therefore
you can freely buy this board
and use it at least 5 years not feeling the difference.

thanks for ur replies, and could i for example connect HDD to it? and Run real time OS there? like VxWorks? or even my own?
