How to convert serial to usb connection for a programmer?

hi

I am using my microcontroller with serial port, due to some problems serial port on my computer got spoiled, i want to use my programmer with usb, is it posible or not???? and how ???? should i take usb converter??

A simple USB to UART converter (like FT232, CP2102, CP2103) will help you do that. It is basically as easy as soldering the chip, hooking up the wires, and installing the apropiate drivers.. no hokus pokus. If you don't want to do SMD soldering, FTDI, dlpdesign, and sparkfun has breakout boards (DIP modules and alike) for the mentioned chips.

there are many types of RS232 to USB in market with CD driver,you can buy it and use it,it is better for you.

See the attached image in this thread, using FT232. I draw it quite quickly, so you should double-check the connections with the datasheet before using it.
