How to simulate Time-over-Threshold of comparator with offset compensation?

The way I did it currently is by looking for the DAC code that results a ToT that is the closest with the ToT at nominal simulation. It catches 44 out of 50 samples, but I keep getting very high standard deviation even though I have already made my circuit larger. How to simulate it correctly...

Optimizing a circuit to get the minimum power consumption

The example from here shows that how, by selecting the correct gm/Id or IC, we can minimize power consumption on common source amp (single MOSFET). My question: how can I do the same exploration, e.g., finding minimum power consumption, on a more complex circuit? I have read Binkley's book. I...

[circuit theory] Transfer function of feedback network

In the system with negative feedback, what is described by G(s) actually? is it G(s)=A(s)/Y(s) ? If I want to derive Y(s)/X(s), is it a correct way to derive G(s)=A(s)/Y(s) and then I can plug it in to the equation (8.2)? With simple resistor as feedback, I usually derive the transfer function...

xmin after swapsweep returns a pair of value instead of a single value

I run this command to get the CODE that I want: xmin(abs(swapSweep(MC_DC_MISMATCH_UNTRIMMED "CODE")) 1 ) The result contain the mcparamset instead of only 9. How can I get only the CODE, which 9 in this example?

Controlling Monte Carlo simulation via ocean script

Hi, How can I pass value to one or some monte carlo options ? for example: I define, my_variable = 200 and I put my_variable into t_mcNumPoints in the ocean script.

Test, Outputs, and Design Variables got deleted after running the same simulation via oceanScript

What I did is simply clicking save script from GUI and running the script via CIW. I use Assembler, Virtuoso 6.1.7 64b. There this message in the main window when I run the script. This does not show up when I use the GUI. I do not know whether it has something to do with the problem...

Mismatch contribution of input differential pair

Should we design our circuit so the input differential pair dominates the mismatch contribution or not? and why? it is not explicitly mentioned here. (from Binkley's book)

Hierarchy Editor does not work with ADE Assembler/Explorer

I usually switch the view from Hierarchy Editor to do post-layout simulation. Somehow ADE Asembler/Explorer stuck with the schematic view, it does not switch to the extraction view that I made. If I chose ADE L in Hierarchy Editor, it works, i.e., I can see the netlist includes the parasitic...

    Layout of current-output current-steering DAC

Hi, Any tips to reduce the area of current-output current-steering DAC? or maybe better floorplan? I feel that the current mirror arrays takes so much space but not sure how to make it better. Here is my layout:

input device selection, i.e., PMOS vs NMOS, of a comparator

I found the same author implemented comparators using the same process tech to detect the same polarity of signal but using different input devices. From other publications, a good conclusion also cannot be made regarding the input device selection. How should we choose the input device?

How to simulate input offset of comparator after trimming?

Hi, I need to simulate and show that the trimming circuit, i.e., 5bit current-output current-steering DAC, reduces the offset of a comparator. But still confuse with the simulation setup. I know how to simulate the input offset, but do not know how to simulate the comparator with the trimming...

[SOLVED] How to improve linearity in current-output current-steering binary-weighted DAC?

I find that the output current is not really double of the current of the previous bit.

How to convert V/#electron to V/V or V/I?

I found that the gain is defined as [V/#electron]? How can I convert this to V/V or V/I? As I understand it, I need capacitance information to convert #electron to voltage using V = Q/C = (q x #electron)/C.

Estimating input noise on comparator circuit

This is exercise 1 from the Analog IC Design book by Carusone, Johns, Martin, Ch. 10 Comparator. I do not understand how we can estimate rms input noise from the plot and where 7.0344 mV comes from. Appreciate any tips.

Do you do characterization for mismatch on your technology? What is the proper way to do that?

I have been reading about random mismatch from some sources like here, here, here, and ch4 of this book. From what I read, I found that on device level, the matching only depends on W, L, and technology. See picture below. So, should we characterize our technology regarding mismatch? if yes...

How to put statistical results from Monte Carlo simulation, e.g., mean, std dev, etc to calculator in cadence?

For example, I want to calculate: offset std dev x current from something. I can find where Cadence save its Monte Carlo simulation results...but somehow it cannot be opened.

How to make the Inversion Coefficient (IC) fixed?

I am reading the book by Binkley in order to characterize my device by using Inversion Coefficient method. This is from Table 4.1 from the book. What setup should I used to get IC constant? The constant IC is used in Trend #2 and #3 I have checked other sources about Inversion Coefficient...
