  1. Closed: Half Bridge SMPS in Current Mode but with slope compensation is OK?

    Hi,
Page 122 of “power supply cookbook” (2nd Ed) by Marty Brown details the design of a 280W offline Half Bridge Converter in Current mode with slope compensation.
Current Mode is in theory not...

Closed: Re: convert voltage control to current control

I have done for you here a Half Bridge SMPS with vin =310vdc, and vout = 32v and iout = 20A.
I did it in current mode, as current mode with slope compensation does not suffer any instability for a...

Closed: Re: Simple ADC code in XC8 for PIC16F18856

    Thanks,
I’ve actually been reading through the PIC16F18556 datasheet in order to be able to program two ADC inputs…one is for a 10ms sample rate, and the other is for a 1ms sample rate.
    I know...

Closed: Simple ADC code in XC8 for PIC16F18856

    Hi,
The following XC8 C Code just reads the ADC input…then if above a certain value, it then outputs a PWM out on a pin.
Do you think this code is OK… it builds fine.
    The ADC had loads of...
  5. Closed: Offline power supply for class D bass guitar amplifier

    Hi
For an offline power supply for supplying a Class D bass guitar amplifier with peak power of 720W (obviously the average power is 1/8th of that), would you say that the transient response is...
  6. Closed: Re: LTspice...splitting LT1243 output into two separate pulse streams

Thanks yes thats right......but i can put a ramp into the Current sense input from the clock pin....and thus do it in voltage mode.....with some resistance in there for current limiting in case of...
  7. Closed: Re: LTspice...splitting LT1243 output into two separate pulse streams

Thanks , this is purely for sim purposes to look at checking sims for the transformer turns checking.

Thankyou Klaus you are a genius as always!...added your inverter, and now no spike.
  8. Closed: Re: LTspice...splitting LT1243 output into two separate pulse streams

Thanks, yes, i have to get "-1" because the switch only responds to "+1" and "-1" for "ON" and "OFF" respectively

Yes i think i need a delay to sort this out...but delays dont seem to be...
  9. Closed: Re: LTspice...splitting LT1243 output into two separate pulse streams

Thanks, this is purely sim and we wish to use the LT1243 as its so quik and eazy to use.

The attached (LTspice and schem) shows how it can be done…but I am getting an unfortunate little spike in...
  10. Closed: LTspice...splitting LT1243 output into two separate pulse streams

    Hi,
I wish to simulate a Half Bridge SMPS in LTspice, but using the LT1243 adapted to control it.
I need to split the gate drive in to two separate streams as in the attached.
    Would you say D flip...
  11. Closed: Re: PFC controller datasheets do not tell you that they need to damp LC filter ring

…thanks, it may well be that, but if it is, then that means it isn’t possible to do a PFC’d Buck converter without getting this ringing…because they will all have LC input filters. There are a...
  12. Closed: Re: Grid tied inverters will result in high mains voltages above 300VAC..do you agre

Thanks, I actually wonder where the threshold is set for turn OFF of an inverter….i mean, “normal” mains voltage is permitted to go up to 265VAC anyway…that’s 373vpk…..so any inverter would not be...

  14. Closed: Re: Grid tied inverters will result in high mains voltages above 300VAC..do you agre

I believe the overvoltages would be more common over short time ranges of up to 10 milliseconds or so.....because the GTIs would quickly sense the overvoltage and turn off.
  15. Closed: Grid tied inverters will result in high mains voltages above 300VAC..do you agree?

When a grid tied inverter (from a solar fed battery) is connected to the mains, it senses the mains voltage and disconnects if the mains voltage goes above 250VAC in UK (above 240VAC in Europe)....

  18. Closed: PFC controller datasheets do not tell you that they need to damp LC filter ringing?

    Hi
Why is it that PFC controller datasheets don’t tell you that they all have a facility to damp the LC filter ringing near the mains zero crossing?
The PFC controllers all do this because PFC...
  19. Closed: Flyback SMPS constant off time controller with PIC micro?

    Hi,
We wish to program the PIC16F176X micro to be a constant off time controller for a Current mode Flyback SMPS.
Please could you say if this is possible?

All we wish to do is set up its...
  20. Closed: Re: Opamp buffer with 400nF output capacitance going unstable?

Thanks, yes I believe there is a real threat of instability here. Please could you check if the following would be unstable? (schematic attached) I have used “out of loop compensation”, as given on...
  21. Closed: Re: Opamp buffer with 400nF output capacitance going unstable?

Just to note, I’ve just actually wired in 51.7uF of capacitance in parallel with C2, and its still not gone unstable. (11 pieces of 4u7, 0805, 16v, X7R).

    Also, I’ve then...

Thanks, I will read about “in loop compensation” etc, it sounds good.
Today I actually addressed our contractor, and tried to talk him out of the circuit of the top post. However, also, I actually...
  23. Closed: Re: Opamp buffer with 400nF output capacitance going unstable?

Thanks, actually there is some requirement for the opamp to sink current some of the time. 15mA was just an average figure.
What would you say is the maximum capacitive load allowable for an opamp...
