  1. Closed: Re: Waveguide Wave port issues HFSS

    Welcome TheXander,

Extend the CPW to the edges of the simulation domain, and apply the waveports there. Then, they won't need to be backed by a PEC.
  2. Closed: Re: Methods of decreasing the coupling between two closely placed antennas

Patterning such as electromagnetic bandgap structures (EBGs) and defected ground structures (DGSs) have been used for this purpose.
  3. Closed: Re: Object from the CAD drawing' and 'sheet for the wave port

    Welcome hyhaerong,

The error is correct; you can't assign wave ports inside of a simulation domain, unless you back them with a PEC. Are you sure you want to use a wave port and not a lumped port?

    Welcome uknwn123,

Modify your bounding box such that the waveports are on its sides. As is, they are inside the domain, which is not a good idea.

    Good Luck!
  5. Closed: Re: How does HFSS derive the distribution of electromagnetic fields, such as Hz?

    Welcome x529,

Your function is slightly off. You probably want something like Hz = AtPhase(ScalarZ(Smooth(<Hx,Hy,Hz>)),Phase), if you want a phase-dependant magnitude.

    If you want complex...
  6. Closed: Re: Difference of Incident field>>scattered field>>total field

    Hello abidahmad2020,

The total fields are equal to the scattered fields plus the incident fields.

When you excite an incident plane wave or other variety, this is the incident field. HFSS then...

    [SOLVED]Closed: Re: Half-mode SIW Simulation

Ok, so look at this figure. Your port is exciting a full mode in the HM-SIW, which is why it shows cutoff around 10 GHz.

There's not an obvious reason why this is happening, it's just...

    [SOLVED]Closed: Re: Half-mode SIW Simulation

Alright, so your half-mode data is not self-consistent: the S-parameters clearly indicate that the cutoff frequency is around 5 GHz, but the Beta plot is showing that you have a cutoff around 10 GHz....

    [SOLVED]Closed: Re: Half-mode SIW Simulation

They look to be about the same (cutoff around 5 GHz).

So you showed us the simulations that worked, but not the ones that didn't work. How are we supposed to help you? Please show us the same...

    [SOLVED]Closed: Re: Half-mode SIW Simulation

    Thank you.

The setup and solution appear to be correct -- so what is the issue, exactly?

Can you plot the S-parameters of this setup and that of a similar full-mode SIW?
  12. Closed: Re: Grounded co planar microstrip antenna excitation in HFSS

    - Edit the waveport to excite three modes.
    - Plot the S11 and S21 of each mode.

    Can you please show us:

The fields of the mode(s) you are exciting.
The surrounding radiation box (extent of the simulation domain).

Set the k-direction vector in the settings box. I believe this can be a variable.
  15. Closed: Re: Grounded co planar microstrip antenna excitation in HFSS

    Welcome BilalMir,

You're using a waveport, but only exciting one mode. Have you checked which mode this is? Typically for a CBCPW it's a parallel-plate type mode.

    I would suggest exciting 3...

You can't use a SOLT calibration for free-space measurement. You need to perform some sort of TRL calibration (ignore the "six-port" title; it's for a two-port analyzer).
  17. Closed: Re: Phase and attenuation constant 1-D periodic structure using CST or HFSS

I've plotted the results here for n = 1; they look like the results you want (I didn't include the period d or convert from degrees to radians).

  18. Closed: Re: Phase and attenuation constant 1-D periodic structure using CST or HFSS

The equation is correct (using acosh instead of acos to find complex Gamma, and don't forget to divide by the period of the unit cell!), but you do need to consider branching: try adding some some...
  19. Closed: Re: Phase and attenuation constant 1-D periodic structure using CST or HFSS

Make sure you are observing the correct mode; the authors in that papers state it's a microstrip mode that they're working with.

Floquet ports are for exciting plane-wave harmonics, not...

If you have a voltage source, you should have a set of field solutions.

Simply draw a line around the transverse cross-section of one of the conductors in the Rx TL, and integrate the H-field...
  21. Closed: Re: What is the cutoff frequency of the capacitively loaded Transmission line

That's probably for an infinite cascade of embedded capacitors. I'm not sure how well one capacitor would reproduce this result. I would recommend to try additional periods and see of anything...

    Welcome anas171,

The object should be a surface, not a volumetric structure. You can select one face of the box to accomplish this.
  23. Closed: Re: Diagonalization of Impedance Matrix

I think it may be instructive to look at diagonalization of the matrix in the first place.

If we have such a diagonalization, then: [Z]I = Iλ, with λ being the eigenvalues and I being the...
  24. Closed: Re: Regarding RF PCB layout design in my company product, some questions

I believe what you're looking to do is match the characteristic impedance of the microstrip with that of the CPW-like mode of a conductor-backed CPW. You can find approximate solutions in works like...
