Hi,

My application currently uses 2XAA batteries in series to have 3 Volt output and 3600mAH total capacity
I need to double the current capacity.

Is it allowed to put 2XAA in parallel with again 2xAA in parallel ?

Looking forward to replies! If more info needed let me know .

Yes, you can put them in series parallel.
Do you have room for two C batteries, which have about 3 times the capacity of an AA?

As long as they are identical batteries, and with the exact same amount of charge(*), I guess they can safely be paralleled.

(*) This means always replace both batteries simultaneously with same brand, brand-new, fresh batteries.

But I also second Crutschow's suggestion: utilize a larger battery.
