Suggest a way to improve the performance-simple power supply

Simple power supply

Suggest any way to improve the performance of a power supply,for example, how to modify the circuit shown in figure 1 so that it can give a continuous variable of output voltage from 0 and up to its max value.

This circuit performs a comparator. When the voltage at the tap of the potentiometer reaches 5+0,6V (the zenner voltage plus the Vbe of T3) T3 conducts and then cuts off T1 and T2. This makes Vo to decrease and then T3 is cut again. In practice the circuit will achieve a stable value in wich Vo assumes a value that makes T3 to slightly conduct. Your whole circuit is a voltage regulator. A large capacitor at the output is needed.
