what we mean by convolution coding(2,1,5) which is used in GSM speech coding
 

Representation is (n,k,Constraint length). essentially a code rate of 1/2 with (4 registers and the current bit =5) which is used for only the Class I bits in GSM. The Class 2 bits are not coded.
