When to choose a carrier in physical design?

When to Choose a carrier in logic design?

I mean what kind of knowledge or skill is needed for a person to choose a carrier in physical design or in logic design?

I got a chance now to choose one in them. But I don't know which one to choose for me.

So please help.

What skill is needed ? Well, whether frontend or backend, it's an engineer position and you need a skill to resolve the issues by yourself.
Asking people a super simple question that you can easily find the answer for by reading books, like how to phase shift by 180 degree, how to realize a NAND gate with A+~B, what's the phase difference on T-FF, doesn't qualify you as an engineer. The first step is learning how to do a reseach by yourself.

Well I guess this wont be wrong, to ask guidance for the first step from you.

Know the technology properly...Have a good basic knowledge of working of mosfets and CMOS...If you are more interested in physical part of the design you can choose physical design..If you are good at verilog coding and good functionality knowledge you can choose front end..

For front-end VLSI u need to have good digital design basics, programming skills (HDLs, C, Scripting).

I did not understand what one does in physical design. Can some one explain.

Physical design deals with the real implementation of the RTL.... Placement of the cells..routing...clock tree building...verification of the components...optimizing the design for better performance...etc...

What are the basic skills one need to be strong in to shine in phisical design.

What is first thing to learn to become good physical design Engineer.

What is the basic knowledge required to become a physical design Engineer.

Learn basic transistor level working...Go through layouts...go through timing related things...just have good solid basics..you will pick up things once you start working...All the best
