Hi All,

May i know how to do an estimate of a circuit in cadence. I am designing a DAC using cadence and would like to measure the power consumption of the same.

Please suggest me.

Thanks a lot in advance!!

Best Regards,
M.

For DC power; simply take the product of VDD with the current through VDD. Do a similar operation if there is a negative supply as well.

Thank you saad.

What about the input signal, is it not needed to consider that?

Thank you,
M

Normally, designer needs to worry about average (DC) power which is dissipated by the circuit. Signal power is typically seen in terms of measuring efficiency not as dissipation. Also, its not seen as a characteristic of the circuit because it will change as the input pattern changes.

Thank you very much Saad!!

One quick question, should I be measuing the Avg power or the RMS power?? What I mean to ask is whether I should use the RMS current or avg current while calculating the product of V and I.

I think the avg current should be used, it is not?

THanks a lot in advance!!

Dear mvj,

go through the following article
