Looking for a 1Mohm, 1Kvolt, 1watt potentiometer, anyone know where I can get this?

I must confess, that a focus potentiometer didn't come into my mind. Unfortunately it's resistance is typically in a 100 Mohm order of magnitude.

Thanks for your responses. I was looking for a place to purchase them. I couldn't find one on Newark, and Mouser the voltages were only around 500-600volts.

Can it help to use a more regular 100k pot in series with resistors of higher value? That is electrically the same as having one pot with higher resistance, but the center pin has limited its range to just ten percent of a equivalent 1Mohm potmeter.

We're looking at a way to balance that, but no i think we need to go the full range. We're thinking of using a high voltage npn transistor in its active state as a solution. Not sure if it will work, or if its the easiest

This sort of pot is a pretty rare beast - possibly a factory that makes HV res's and pots may make a special for you, if you need the actual resistance, otherwise a more conventional pot controlling the output of a simple class AB amp (with 1200V mosfet or igbt as o/p devices) would give you a variable o/p voltage from 0-1kV or -500 to +500V. You could put any value R you like in series with the o/p of such a voltage source.
Regards, Orson Cart.

I think I found a solution. Using two 500kohm resistors (0.5W and 500volts), one 500kohm pot (0.5W, and 500 volts) and a DPDT switch, I think I can have the full range of a 1Mohm, 1000kvolt, 1W potentiometer.

Resistor(s) - $6.37 each

Let me know what you think.
