I don’t have any previous experience in Matlab…
What I am looking to do by matlab is:

1-Saving tow voice for baby (one during laughing and another during crying)
Could we record those two voices via the computer mic.? And what the proper format for matalb?

2- Differentiate between the two voices (I don’t know what is the main parameter for differentiation…is it frequency?)

3- Then I need the program to be able to recognize any new recorded sound and decide if it crying or laughing. And if it crying the program automatically operate a specified carton movie (Tom and Jerry)
IS IT possible ?? Can any one send such a program to me?

What a good question!

There are many humans who can't tell the difference between crying and laughing by the one person (even sometimes when they know that person very well). So it raises the question of how a person could programme a machine to recognise a difference that they cannot recognise themselves?

I will be very, very interested to understand what you think that Matlab or any other IT solution can do which their (human) programmers cannot do! That requires access to reliable data of voice recordings which have already been reliably, accurately, consistently and universally applied to voices. Lets not even think about what technology has been used in such studies - the point is, can the distinction be made to an adequate standard of repeatability, reliability and confidence?

(Note. I agree that any one specific baby/person may have distinct personal characteristis which differentiate crying from laughing, and that difference could be coded alorithmically, but I don't believe that there is a generic distinction in the audio domain. I'd recommend speaking to some actors and some child psychologists before starting to define the problem in the audio domain).

This is a very complex system indeed! There is a lot of research in identifying what "type" of cry (hunger, pain). Most of the current solutions are implemented using neural networks. Search the IEEE or the web for "infant cry" and "neural network". You'll find many journal articles on it. I am not aware of any work on laughing/crying identification.

In matlab, you can load a .wav audio file.

WaW… I thought it is simple program by matlab to do so
The idea is for my children (13 years old) … and I thought it is simple so I can get the program and read it … understand it …. then tell them how it works…. :)
Thanks for your effort and feedback
