Hi expats,
I jz bought this Smart TM1 GSM module. I am trying to connect it with my PC to test it AT commands via RS232 and HyperTerminal. However, I cannot get OK after sending AT. Do I need a driver for this GSM module to be recognized by WIN XP?
Thanks for your help.

No drivers are required for GSM modules. Just check the data sheet about the baud rate of modem.
Later test the serial cable alone by doing loopback test.
If it does not work then change TX and RX in the connector one side and see it again. some modem use straight cable and some use cross serial cable.

HI CKshivaram,
Thank you for your reply. I have tried. However, I got some ERROR responses after sending AT commands even though it was stated support from TM1 AT command list. Follows were what I got:
AT
OK
AT+CMGF=?
ERROR
AT+CMGF+1
ERROR
ATD98741208
NO DIAL TONE
ADTL
DIALING...98741208
NO DIAL TONE
ATZ
OK
Could you please tell me whether there is something wrong with this GSM module? How should I test this GSM module AT commands.
Thanks a lot

IN THE DATASHEET OF THE GSM MODEM THEY MIGHT MENTIONED THE network LED status...
1st check network status
type AT+CSQ and enter if u get response 99,99 then GSM is not detecting the network

Hi CKshivaram,
I have tried those AT commands, but it did not work. I figured out that I should need a driver for this GSM module, otherwise my PIC cannot recognize this module. The are 2 reasons why I thought that I need a driver for this GSM module.
1. I still got OK response after sending AT is because this is send to my Toshiba software module (My computer->properties->Hardware->Devices Manager->Modems->Toshiba Software modem). I have attached the screen captured for this test.
2. I was trying to test my hand phone Nokia 7500. Without Nokia PC suite, I cannot use AT commands to dial a phone number or sending an SMS. When I installed the driver for this handphone, I was successfully sending those AT commands.
Would you please tell me what might goes wrong with this GSM module? Any other way that I can test AT commands from this GSM module.
Thanks a lot.
Quang Tien
