hi everyone, I was required to build a stop watch that would count up to 60 and then go back to 0 and start counting again. Also i had to make 2 switches one for the start/stop button another for the reset button. I have completed both the mod 60 and the start and stop button and it is working in multisim. I cant seem to get the reset button to work, when activated it is suppose to clear the counter to 00 and stay there till the start/stop button is activated. I used a mod 10 and mod 6 counter to make the mod 60 counter and also the start/stop switch and the clock is put into the and gate and connected to the clock of the 7493 to make the start/stop switch. thanks

Do you have a schematic of what you have so far? Can you figure out how to reset without also stopping? The 7493 can be configured so that the first stage flip flop can be used separately and it is available when configured as a mod 6 counter. You can use this flip flop for your start/stop and reset functions.

all done i just have to add a reset switch, i tried using a nand gate to connect to the clear in the 7493 but multisim said it was an error

You have correctly connected the Qx outputs to the reset pins to create the mod 6/10 counters; you will need additional logic gates so that the counters can be reset by the count OR the reset switch.

By the way, on the first counter it appears that you have the output Qa tied to ground. That is a good way to destroy the chip!

YaY! that worked! thanks alot man
