Dear all

I am simulating a patch antenna, with the frequencies ranged from 12GHz to 18 GHz, resonant at 15 GHz. The constraints of the patch are as follows:
- The side where the microstrip port is located is not larger than 1cm
- The height of the substrate is 20mil
- Reflection coefficient are all below -10dB in the range of frequency, and lower than -20dB at 15GHz.

However, the results I can get is refl.coef is -35dB at 15Ghz, which is good. But the refl. coef. at the other frequencies such as 12Ghz or 18GHz, is approximately to 0dB. This is really bad!

Do you have any ideas or advices? Please help,

Thank you very much

Hi you're never going to get that sort of bandwidth with a patch. Have you considered other antennas? Have a look at Antenna Magus. You can export ready to run FEKO models of lots of different antennas. The Classroom version has 15 antennas and is free to Universities or academics. See www [dot] antennamagus [dot] com

What kind of broadband antenna should I use in this case?Do you have any suggestion?

Patches are inherently very narrow band, you should not get 0dB but very close to it. If you post your design I will look at it in FEKO if you want

Dear b4bb4ge,

Could you give me your email address so that I can send you my .cfx file?
Thank you

I need to see the gain and radiation pattern of the patch antenna in FEKO, and the FEKO team suggested me to do the power setting: incident power(transmission line model). So for the source power, how much Watts do I need to set? any suggestion?

I would reccomend 1 watt and then put your load 50 or 200 or what ever you are using for the impedance of your line / antenna.

After designing for the patch antenna, I want to put 16 patch antenna to an array, with different phase to create a phase taper in FEKO. Do you have any idea how to do this task in FEKO?

Thank you

---------- Post added at 01:18 ---------- Previous post was at 01:16 ----------

I set the input voltage for each patch antenna is uniform at 1V, I see the phase when setting the voltage in FEKO, is it the place where we excite the phase for each antenna?

I would set your phases to zero (for a bore-sight high gain pattern), you can do this in the port excitation settings where you were talking about in your added post. from here you can just copy your entire structure and (right click and say copy translate) and then just translate it to how far you want it from the first element. You can then copy both these and do that again, continue this till you get to 16. Now you have to set up all your excitations for elements 2 - 16 like you did for element one. Now run your model.

I have Magus with 119 antennas
