hi
can anyone please help me by clarifying that is it necessary to use VCO for generating clock?if i use just a ring oscillator and a output buffertstage which can generate a rail to rail swing than is there any problem?my output frequency is fixed than why i need VCO?i can use just a ring oscillator, isnt it??

I think the main reason to use a VCO is for improved frequency stability. If you have a VCO, you can match it with a PLL and then have a clock (almost) as good as the crystal you use. A ring oscillator is suitable only if you need a low-precision clock. It much depends from the application.
