I want to design a system that enables a doctor to read the temperature and the heart beat of a patient remotely. I want ideas as to how to go about this project.

Fist define remotely. Wireless? If yes what distance? The doctor is going to receive this information at a computer? Cellphone?

Any way i would divide this project in 2 parts. Reading temperature and Heart Beat and the second one sending the information.

I want to design a system that enables a doctor to read the temperature and the heart beat of a patient remotely.

using some kind of alien devices would be the best way to go.

seriously, you have such a poorly defined project that it is impossible to provide you with concrete suggestions.

i want to transmit the signals over a wireless link to the doctor's computer. i was thinking of using Xbee modules for this purpose. I want to use one of the PIC 16 series microcontrollers to sample the heartbeat and take the temperature reading from a temperature sensor. the collected data will be sent through an Xbee module to the doctor's computer. How feasible is this?

Hi,
better use a Wi-Fi modules (IEEE Std. 802.11b) from microchip.
**broken link removed**

For sure is very feasible. First of all, what is your experience with uCs and analog electronic? You are going to need a minimum knowledge to make a heartbeat reader. Not much. There are a lot of resources on the web about this. Well but how can we help you?
