I have generated a VCD file using Modelsim. I have read that VCD file gives the switching activity.

How can I use this VCD file in Synopsys to calculate the power consumption. Can anyone help me?

If possible can anyone provide a step by step procedure...

Re: VCD file

the flow may be very crasy! need someone to explain!

VCD file

If you use Nanosim as your power simulation tool,
You may need .sig file which states all the inputs nodes (or outputs if they are included in your .vcd file).
For Nanosim, you can check the useguide how it works.

Re: VCD file

In power compiler you can use vcd2saif command:

vcd2saif -input /home/user/vcd_file.vcd -o backward saif_file.saif

Then you can read the saif file and report the power:
read_saif -input "/home/user/saif file" -instance DUT

report_power -analysis_effort high > "report.report"

Re: VCD file

There are many tools available in the market. If you are using the synopsys tools you already have your answer.

If you are using the cadence, they have solution using the powermeter.

If you are using the sequence they are having the power theater soln.

Let us know which tool you will be using in the flow.. some of us can answer you.
