Hi All,

I am using Proload V 5.4 to program my 8051 MCU using PC, now a day as we all know laptop has no more provided RS 232 port. Is anything I can do to program with new laptop but still using the existing hardware and software of Proload? Because I plan to buy a laptop.

Thanks...

There are USB to RS232 converter dongles out there which will create a virtual RS232 port in your machine to use you existing hardware.

However, please we informed that so far I've head mixed reviews about there converters.

But you can always give it a try.

Hope this help

Hai

As Jack said use a USB to RS232 converter.

I had used a prolific based usb to rs232 converter which worked fine. I had also used proload with that converter.

As the programmer requires only Tx and RX data it can be converted by the use of USB to UART converters and the same HW and Proload can be used with your laptop. I am using the said set up since 3-4 years without any problems. Cheers
