Please advice me !!!!

Hi
I am a Design Engineer(working on vhdl, foga programming).I have knowledge on verilog and debugging tools like chipscope.I am also interested in learning in depth EDK as i have very little knowledge in that.I lost my job now and i am at home.
I want to brush up my skills and improve new skills.I am planning to learn system verilog myself,i dont know whether it is relevent to my subject or not.I know there are many other options to learn like system C,shell script,C language.....etc.Please suggest me which one soots me so that when next opportunity come i should be able to perform well and they should at least see my skill set and call me for an interview.I want to know the current trend so that i can improve myself in that.
Eagerly waiting for your replies...
Thank you

Re: Please advice me !!!!

Tan,

Sorry to hear about you losing your job. Hopefully, you will find something quickly!

I've been using VHDL/Verilog on and off for over 10 years. I too am interested in learning System C but I'm not sure that it would give you an edge over other candidates unless you're specifically going for a System C position.

It seems like a lot of folks that are doing FPGA work these days end up either with a microprocessor on the board or within the FPGA itself. If you don't know C, I think learning that skill would make you much more marketable than knowing System C. Especially learning how to program in embedded systems where you have limited memory and have to interface to hardware. You can get dev kits for 8/16-bit microprossors for less than $100 these days.

Also, knowing a scripting language like perl or python are useful (marketable) skills that don't take that long to pick up.
