they are used extensively IQ modulators and demodulators , to genarte I and Q signals from the LO

1. Splite the RF signal to 0deg and 90deg for IQ or image rejection usage.
2. Notch filter for image rejection.

and what are the other possibilities to generate I and Q signals? What is the advantage of polyphase filters?

What is the advantage of Legendre polynomial filters?

other posiblities , it use some sort of frequqcy dividers , so if the LO is 2 or 4 times , no need for the poly phase filter

but if ur LO is the same freq , u need a poly phase filter

Hello,

They are mainly used as channel filter in combination with quadrature mixer to filter the image signal in Receiver and generate I and Q signal.

Hereafter you can find some references on this issue:

I think it is image frequency rejection.
