Hi,
I am from India(Hyderabad) and would like to know if anyone in edaboard from India has ordered (and received) free samples from any of semiconductor manufacturing companies.

Recently I tried with MAXIM, but even after a month, I did not receive anything :-(
If anyone of you has tried and got lucky, then maybe I can also try ordering a few samples from that company.

Thanks in advance!

Try from TI as they pay all duties and frieght charges . I have received samples from MAXIM,ANALOG and TI 4 years back. I sincerely beleive TI will support sample request from India

P.S. What does 'bake prior to vapor'or something similar mean I found in one of their packages. Do we really have to bake it in an oven???

hi,

Cant really understand what u are speaking about?. What is the IC package which u have ordered

I have tried free samples from 3 companies so far and I succesfully got it on narration the use, projected annual cunsumptions and product in which it is going to be used.
The companies are TI, ST Micro and MAXIM. Its not too much before.. I got the samples last month only... Pleas etry with filling up proper information and You will get it.

The note about baking prior to vapor phase means that if you are going to put the parts through a manufacturing process (i.e. IR reflow or wave solder) you need to bake them to remove all moisture from the parts. If you dont you run the risk of your parts popcorning (exploding) in the IR oven or wave solder machine.

If you are placing by hand then you will be fine.

I used to work for a very large semiconductor company. The company was very reluctant to send samples to India as the perception was that it never leads to business and that it's just a bunch of hobby projects and single contributors.

That was about 10 years ago. I called my buddy (who's still there) just now to ask him if that's still the widely-held opinion. "Pretty much yes" he said.

So either a) the company is losing potential business or b) they're saving in an area where others are wasting. I can't say.

Best thing is to work with your local *distributor*, not IC maker. Distributors are interested in business. If you demonstrate your need, they'll bend over backwards for you!

You are so right. I have stated that time and again to others on this website who think its unfair that they either cant get free parts in their part of the world or that they have to pay a large sum of money for shipping on "free" parts.
