gsm module for laptop

hi friends,

i need to send an SMS uising a Gsm module interfaced to the PC.At the same time i need a microcontroller to be interfaced to the PC so as to control the motion of a stepper motor on which a camera is mounted. the camera takes pics and transfers to the PC.i need to send an SMS in case of any motion detected in front of the camera.

my laptop has only one serial port... how can i interface both the controller and the GSM module to it?

can i by any way connect the GSM module via the USB port and instruct it to send messages using VB??

i'm working on a windows XP system....i'm woefully ignorant about Linux...:cry:

i guess its very different one......:| as u going to do...

is tht ur project, u asked in microcontroller section??

do u select microcontroller? first... b sure microcontroller is actually needed.

1stly because if u do the image processing in pc..actually u r going to use mc only stepper rotation. for only stepper rotation, there are so many cheap ic' available like tip41,uln2003,uln2808,and many....
so in interfacing,u dont need to use it.without interfacing, then u might hv .

ya.. i need the microcontroller only to rotate the stepper motor.... we sre familiar with stepper motor rotation only with mc...we need to rotate the stepper motor depending upon a signal from PC..left or right...to track the direction of motion...is it possible without using mc??
