Axial Ratio in IE3D to Dr.Jian or any one else , please i need help in my design of microstrip antenna , i want to know how to get Axial Ratio vs. frequency display , i tried to get it from display menu in patternview and i found there are 37(theta) , each theta have phi (0 to 350) and i don't know how can i choose which of 37(theta) and which of phi (0 to 350) to plot on diagram (Axial Ratio vs. frequency display)

I tried to get Axial Ratio from 2D pattern display but i get Axial Ratio vs. Elevation angle

Best Regards

Thanks at all

Normally the above option is for getting axial ratio in all desired direction.

U can select both theta and phi 0 for getting axial ratio.

Re: Axial Ratio in IE3D

I haven't result in (Axial Ratio vs. frequency display) when i choose phi(0,90) and theta(0,45,90,180)

please any one try this design and get (Axial Ratio vs. frequency display)

Axial Ratio (0 to 10 db) and frequency (3.5 to 5 GHz)

Added after 2 minutes:

please find the attached file

Re: Axial Ratio in IE3D

Hi, eng_romeo:

Yes. You just choose "Axiail Ratio vs. Frequency" for a specific angle of theta and phi. For different theta and phi, the axial ratio is different. Most designers only care about the axial ratio of the main beam. You should find the angels of (theta, phi) of the main beam and choose the combination. For example, a typical patch antenna's main beam is theta = 0 and phi = 0. Then, you just pick the angle combination for your "Axial Ratio vs. Frequency" display.

Best regards,

I didnt find any problem. If u wish u can send me the pattern file (*.pat) i'll try to resolve it.

Re: Axial Ratio in IE3D

Dear Dr.jain and Mr.balaguru ,

please find the attached file of GEO file for (single probe-fed truncated corner microstrip antenna with U-slot) , frequency (3.5 to 5 GHz)

Please help me to get Axial Ratio vs. frequency display , i tried many (phi, theta) without any result

How can i obtain the angels of (theta, phi) of the main beam?

best regards ,

Thanks at all

Re: Axial Ratio in IE3D

Hi,

I've simulated and enclosed results here.I didnt find any difficulty.
U've simulated for only single frequency 3.92GHz in pattern file
If u want the result of axial ratio vs frequency for the entire band u've to simulate for the entire band.

In revised folder i've enclosed results of Axialratio vs frequency for both theta, phi = (0,0) & (0,90) in PDF format.

Re: Axial Ratio in IE3D

Thanks for your reply

I tried to obtain axial ratio vs. frequency display without any result , there is a note in it and i attached file to see my result

Thanks alot

Re: Axial Ratio in IE3D

HI

I tried to find the problem but i couldnt get it. I think Mr.Jian will help u.

Re: Axial Ratio in IE3D

Hi, eng_romeo:

It is out of range for the display. It might be the automatic finding range does not apply. Please change its range to find it. If you can send me the .pat file (zipped), I can try to find out the true reason.

Regards,

Re: Axial Ratio in IE3D

Dear Dr.Jian ,

I tried many times to change (theta, phi) of microstrip antenna design in the frequency range (start frequency=3.8GHz , end frequency=4.2GHz, step frequency=0.05GHz) without anyresult and the radiation pattern of this design is 4GHz , i send to you the pat file of the design and geo file as the attached files and i hope you help me to know my mistake .

Best Regards ,

Thanks at all

Re: Axial Ratio in IE3D

Hi,

My suggestion to get axial ratio vs frequency was, Simulate that antenna from 3.8 to 4.2 GHz with 101 frquency points enabling both current distribution and radiation pattern in simulation setup. Then u can get axial ratio vs frequency plot.

Enclosed here is the axial ratio vs frequency plot (PDF)for your antenna and pattern file(*.pat)for the same.

Re: Axial Ratio in IE3D

Dear balaguru ,

Thanks for your reply , i want to know why the size of your pat file is 1.06MB and my pat file is 182 KB? , i think that is my mistake in this point ,when i apply your pat file (1.06MB) gives me result and when apply my pat file(182KB) doesn't give any result , how can i reach with the size of pat file to(1.06MB)?

Best Regards ,

Thanks at all

Re: Axial Ratio in IE3D

It depends upon the no of frequency points that u've simulated for.

Re: Axial Ratio in IE3D

Hi, eng_romeo:

I checked your file. You only simulated one frequency point. That is the reason you see no data in the "Axial Ratio vs. Frequency" plot. Please simulate more freuqency points for the plot, or you can check the 3D and 2D plots for axial ratio. Regards,
