Hi,

My project is laser communication network. n I m getting data frm pc through serial port. But the prob is, UART (max232) restricts the data to much lower speed than 120kps which is serialports max speed.... also I wana knw the fast switching transistors for laser switching....can someone recomend any alternative to my approach for fast speed...can I use frequency modulation ......

Laser communication

How many MBPS or GBPS are you talking about? Of course you cannot use directly from optical comm to RS232. U can use freq modulator, but best thing is that you use an appropriate ASIC for optical comm.

Re: Laser communication

wud u plz elaborate how frequency modulator can b used. anything above 1mb-50mb wud b sufficient.....Actually my task is to transfer files with different extensions and audio files....

Re: Laser communication

It is such a loss to use optical system to transmit 50Mbps. to go higher use the 1Gbps ethernet adaptor, then convert its siganl to an optical signal usuing any laser driver, you would find plenty on maxim-ic.com. or you could use a programmable PCI card. but i prefare the ethernet adaptor. you also would need a high speed RX, and a limetter. good luck

RS232 is slow. Why you don't use usb 2 for your optical communication.
