u can connect it with some usb interfaces like pdiusbd12 or u can implement it yourself by refering toatmel site and searching about the usb but it is very combersome work. it is better to use usb interfaces. these interfaces usually convert usb to serial and u can connect it to your micro very easily.

I only worked with pdiusbd12 and i bought it $3 1 years a go but u can find some good interfaces in fillips site. but some of my friends are working with microcontrollers that they have usb interfaces too and are very small and cheap.I can ask for u. if u want mail me hamed_sotoudi@yahoo.com

atmel has micros that they have usb interface insidethemself. but I dont know that they have master or slave but only i know some of them have master. it is better u search texas micros. u can findmicros that have usb interface inside themself and put some of your code inside that micros and make your atmega code easy and secure.

what do you know about pdiusbd12? u can download its data sheet. and u are right. it is parallel.
