What is the approach to mixed signal ICs design?

Hi everyone,

Can anyone tell me which is the usual approach for Mixed signal IC design??? Is the analog part designed independently from the digital section following its usual design flow, and vice versa?? If so, when is the full verification or simulation done? Are the analog and digital circuits independently simulated before doing a full analysis? How is the analog/digital interface verified?

Does anyone has any books or papers which show some kind of mixed signal design flow?

Mixed signal ICs

nanosim can simulate analog/digital circuits together, but first you must be sure that both analog and digital circuit is ok by sepearate simlation,I think.

I know that nanosim receives as inputs: spice files and verilog files, but how are the analog and the digital parts of the design related??? Is the digital part designed using HDL codes and then running logical synthesis, auto place & route, etc...???

Analog and digital parts can never be designed independently. An interface has to be decided and then both parts are to be designed. Usually the interface need to be changed based on the difficulties in implementation on either digital or analog side. Each part is designed, layed out and verified separately.

The final interface of course happens only at the netlist level.

There are various simulators AMS (Analog Mixed Signal), which can simulate these netlists and verify the interface... A cruder method is by actual analysis of the interface by tracing through the netlist... :D

Hello !!!
SpectreVerilog may simulate mixed signal IC.
The blocks may be presents layout, transistors circuit, verilog, verilog-a description.

Thanks for your replies. I guess I need to get my hands on the subject to get a better understanding.

Can anyone recommend me any books or references regarding this matter???
