is the metal resistance found in the design kits just a metal line or does it take some special mask from the fab.

i.e. can i use it without any extra option from the fab?
regards

metal resistance

just interconnection layer

metal can be used as a resistance without any extra option.
But the impedance is too small that we usually use other types of resistances.
The metal resistance is parasitical when it is used as a interconnection line.

Re: metal resistance

There will be a dummy layer over the metal to tell the LVS tool to identify it as resistance.

i know that a dummy layer is added but the question is that wether a special setting is done by the fab. like adding an identification mask.

Re: metal resistance

i searched in the documentation of the umc pdk; it tells that the only layer used is metal 1 , it seems that it requires no additional mask, you can simply put it in your schematic for certain value of resistance , then take the dimensions from layout and place a metal with the same dimensions , the run parasitic extraction and see the resistance wether same or differ

metal resistance

Since the metal resistance is too small, in what situation will we use a metal resistor in the circuit design?
