diversity order means

what is diversity order???

Hi,

Diversity order means how many degrees of freedom u can have in ur design.

BR,

Arif Khan

can u plz explain what is "degree of freedom" and abt slope of BER, i think the BER vs SNR is non-linear graph and slope is changing all the time so where should we find the slope?

waiting...

In log scale, BER in medium and high SNR has a constant slope. Diversity is equal to that.

in mobile communication diversity is the number of independent copy of the signal that u have in the receiver that helps u overcome fading

The wireless channel has a multipath propagation characteristic. The key concept these days is spacial diversity and it refers to how can we use the multipath nature of the channel to receive the signal through say: r separate antennas. The r signals can be used to improve de reception when combining them (maximal ratio comb.) or selecting the best signal (selection comb.). We say then that we have an r diversity order and it is determined by the channel (lots of buidings present or wideopen areas for example will form different propagation paths). It is found that the diversity order is related to the slope of the error probability vs SNR curve.

An other option is to use each path to send different information. We can increase data rates dramatically and that is why it is so interesting today. This idea means that we are not using diversity any more to have a "diversity gain" but we are using the channel to have a "rate gain". Both aproaches lead to increasing capacity.

Can you please explain to me that in a graph of outage probability, where x-axix is SNR in dB scale and on y asix there is semilogy y of outage probability,, How to find the diversity order by using slope formula ??

please help.

BR,
