Hello,

I want to learn how to program AVR(Atmel).

So help me in following areas:
-hardware: I found PonyProg at

Is this programmer any good, in fact what do you suggest?!, any
better schematic?!

-software: I was thinking AVR Studio 4 for assembler and codevision for C.
What do you suggest?!

What I know and don't:
I know C, C++, soon I will learn assembler, I programmed in Bascom and I don't like it, and I want to avoid it, I also have PG-302 from middle school, now I'm studying electrical engineering at college.

programmer circuits do the job no problem i am using spipgm i found it very easy, also it is available on the net

www.avrfreaks.net is a very good site for avr learners

for pony prog its ok
u have to take care of the following

avr studio , codevision, bascom are ur software simulator u try ur codes and see the results. these programs creates hex files

pony prog,spipgm they are the programs that will take ur hex file and put it on the mcu ,each has its own programming circuit that will be connected to the computer( from serial port in case of pony prog,parrelel port for spipgm )

so
"so PonyProg won't have problems with AVR Studio 4 and codevision, they support PonyProg?! "

of course no problem they are seperate ,got it?? :D

Thanks,

I saw that codevision had it's own module to communicate with programming circuit, that's why I asked, but to code in one and program in another, no problem.
Now I'm off to building.

spipgm problem

use WinAVR, you will get a lot of sample codes. www.avrfreaks.net is the forum where you will get help instantly and accurately for AVR. I use BSD programmer. See my programmer

Do you have CD of book "Programming and Customizing the AVR Microcontroller". It contains many useful example codes.
Can you upload here?
