Hi friends,

After installing any software in Windows we are getting Icons and able to find at Programs.

how to check the installed programs in the Linux? At which place we can find them?

Thanks in Advance
Goud

If you install the package using rpm, you can use rpm -q to check the installed package. Usually you can go to /usr/local to check the installed program. Some may place the files in /opt.

Well not quite most linux programs installed wia rpm can be found in /usr/bin, and comparing to the windows shortcuts *.lnk files there is something simular in linux it's the desktop files *.desktop wich unlike win .lnk are text files and contain a short info about the app or file they point at and the file's location. Actualy kde and gnome's menu items are really *.desktop files.
The desktop files are usualy located in /usr/share/applications and /usr/share/apps plus under suse /opt/kde3(or gnome)/share/applications
:p

You can use "locate programename" or "whereis programname" command to find where the installed program are located.
