How to count lumps of cloth on a moving belt ?

urgent help plz

Hello guys,
Plz tell me that I want to count lumps of CLOTH on the moving belt ..How i can i do---I think this is possible by means of infrared ....but how...plz plz do reply

Secondly tell me that I want to count the length of cloth on moving belt ...How can i ....For eg that cloth is moving on the belt and after 1 meter belt stops for 10 seconds then on & segment display it shows 1 and then again cloth starts moving on the belt and again after 1 meter it stops for 10 seconds and counter increments and 7segment shows the value of 2
plz help me

Hi

Measuring Length is easy. Just connect disc to the belt. measure the number of rotations per meter and display it. A simple atmel 89c2051 (or pic ) is enough for this.

Basic principle is you measure the time and if you know the rate at which the belt is rotating you can measure the distance.

Heres a tip for you: you have to experiment on this though some math might be involve...

The motor for the belt must be of a constant speed. Put tachs (tachometer) on the motor (it simple to design and build), take the average cloth length in 1 sec interval
and program it in a microcontroller (or a logic counter may be) to display the length on yer desired display material (eg. LCD or 7-segment display)
