how to connect ft2232d to the computer

hi all,

i want to build a usb to serial convertor in low cost what components do i need to choose. Please any body help me.

cp2102 or ftdi 232bm max232

FT232BM, look for it at www.ftdichip.com . There are many discussion on this forum about it, use the search function.

cp2101 + max232

They are so cheap to buy. $13 from Tiger. You can't build them for that and why would you want to.

serial converter ttl 3.3v toronto

You can use the new FT232R, it works very good

cp2102 usb rapidshare

let me find the smatic first as sonn as posible i not make sure i have or not

hii
here is a circuit diagram... but to be honest i get it from a topic somwhere on this site...but i decided to help..
thanx

you can use cp2103 or use mcu simulate usb

Use FT232.
Quite easy to implement.

of cource i think it is possible with some microcontroller they are very chip

If you use the FT232R you don't need the eeprom, the crystal and some other components

This one is pretty good CP2101 from Sillicon Labs, you onli need to feed it.

Even better, just connec it!

i'm having a laptop usb port and a kit which is having serial port. for the kit the powersupply is provided from a adaptor.

for serial communication i need this usb to serial convertor.

for this purpose which one will suite?

plz give me suggestions on this.

thanks in advance.

You can use any of the above, you only need to know if the kit is TTL or (RS-232 if the kit is designed to connect it directly to the serial port of the PC) you will need a transceiver (the yellow square in the CP2101 diagram) like the well known MAX232. and the full circuit (CP2101 and MAX232) can be feeded with the USB port.
You should take a look wich pins are used by your kit, almost all times only are needed the 2, 3 and 5 (rx, tx and gnd) and for this case most USB-SERIAL converters works fine, but it is difficult to say wich converter will work with you specific kit, maybe you can tell us what kit are you trying to connect and perhaps somebody already did it.

Regards

the kit is my personal kit and i'm using R8C/11 microcontroller in it and max 232 and the db9 is given to 2,3, and 5 pins.

I tried both FT232BM (for my thesis project) and the CP2102 (for company project).

I would recommend the CP2102 as it is really easy to implement as u dont need to add other components.

Hwo to use CP2102 ? Should I program it ?

No need programming. Just follow the connection of its datasheet. There is an example circuit. Also, it is possible to request for unique PID (Product ID) from Silabs for making ur device unique. U will only need to program the CP2102 for changing the default PID to a unique PID using their software if needed. And this can only be done after u hv successfully made the circuit. Upon successfully implemented, u will need to install 2 drivers in the computer when u plug in. One driver is for virtual COM port, another is for USB device driver.

There r some application notes in their website which u can refer to!

Hope this helps!
:D
