16lf877a

Hi Friends,

I used to work alot with 16F877a PIC microcontroller from microchip.
I was learning to switch design to a microcontroller using a 3.3V power supply.
For this, I understand from the website that
16LF877a microcontroller would be able to accept supply from 2V to 5.5V range.
Unlike the 16F877a which can only take in a minimum of 4V.

When I supply 3.3V using LM2576-adj and run with a 4Mhz crystal,
the microcontroller 16LF877a cannot run.
When I adjust the power supply to about 4V,
the same 16LF877a is able to function properly.
Suspecting that it may be a production fault,
I have tried using another 16LF877a from another production batch,
the same behavior is observed.

Tried searching on the internet,
but not much information on 16LF877a microcontroller
I have run out of idea and hope anyone of you
can provide some insight on what could have gone wrong.

Anyone tried running 16LF877a on a 3.3V power supply
with success?

Thank you for your advise.

16lf877a datasheet

try switching off the brownout detect and make sure the power supply is clean.

datasheet del 16lf877a

hi
i used pic16f877 with 3v and it work but wen i decrise voltage under 3v it stoped .maybe your brownout detect actived or your suply is unstable try to use 100n capacitor near the power pin of micro.

we can use pic16lf877a instead pic16f877a

We use 16F877A with 3.3 V supply, and with 10 M Hz crystal speed, It is ok! I also believe it is either your power supply is not clean or your circuit is not good design.

16f877a+16lf877a+difference

Siongboon,
The part you mentioned 16FL877a is not even in the microchip website!
According to the datasheet 16F877a should work upto 2V.
Try RC oscillator or external oscillators!

cleaning power supply for microcontrollers

16LF877a does exist. The offical operating voltage range can be found in the data sheet.

use bor pic16

Yes. PIC16LF877a can work from 2.0V to 5.5V
but not PIC16F877a as mention in the datasheet.
Information can be found in the same datasheet.

Thanks everyone, for your advise and ideas.
Glad to hear that so many of you have tried
the microcontroller using lower voltage supply.

I will work on it again base on your suggestion.
Thanks alot.

pic16lf877a data

Ya.
The microcontroller PIC16LF877a is able to run on
3.3V power supply
after I turn off the BODEN "Brown out detect" bit
on the configuration bits.

Thanks everyone for the guidance.

Does this means that PIC16LF877a
cannot operate with BODEN function
under low voltage supply?
There is no BODEN for pic16LF877a ?

16f877a y el 16fl877a

Under the Configuration Bits in MPLAB, it is possible to set different Brown Out Voltage at 2.0V, 2.7V, 4.2V, and 4.5V.

16lf877a vs 16f877a

BrownOut voltage levels are configurable only for PIC18 family...In datasheet of PIC16 I dont found many mentions about this...

Yes, that is my mistake. I have got confused the 18LF and 16LF series. It seems there is nothing about discrete BOR voltage for 16LF series.
