when IM products are acceptable ?

in a mixer, there may be more than one tone at its input. So, since a mixer is a non-linear circuit there will be intermodulation products in the output. My question is : what is the figure of merit that indicates the IIP3 is acceptable ?

Some reference about when this figure of merit is acceptable ?

Another aspect is what frequency ranges will be occupied by the products. If they are outside the range occupied by the desired signals they can be filtered out and their levels are irrelevant.
