What to use for display and keypad? (hardware)

hi, i'm currently working on a project and i'm handling the hardware part. i'm to design a module that has keypads and a display(displays only WAIT, OPEN & ERROR). the module also connects through the parallel port to the computer. it accepts and sends data. what do i use for the screen and how do i construct the keypad.

i'm short on time.

For the dispay you can use LED let say red will be Error, yellow wait, and green open

for the keypad you can try to impliment matrix, or serial shifter, than you can use PC keyboard

yes it can be as easy as that Iouri said.
you can use LCD to display.
you can find all of them on web and edaboard.
just search

Could you specify more your hardaware requirement.

In other words, you can implement your finction using different resources. You may target FPGA, Microcontroller,....

First specify your need and your target hardware then think how to implement it

However if you go the MCU route i suppose a LCD screen with a matrix scanned keypad is really easy. Also you can find completed code for the project but as you said you are only concerned with the hardware. A completely integrated solution might be a touch screen - thus providing the needed visual output as well as the input interface?

guys apart from the matrix keyboard, is what other method can i employ?
