gsm modem nokia 3120

Hai

I am looking for doing a Vehicle tracking system.(Lot of others have already discussed here.) I have searched almost all those topics and before I start I would like to clear up something regarding the mobile phone used for smsing by the system

I wish to do it in PIC or AVR.

1. As Most nokia phones didint support AT commands (At least the older ones),and FBUS is a complex thing to impliment I am also planning to go for a Phone with modem which responds to AT commands.(Is there any routines available for FBUS in C for any PIC or AVR?)

My question is ,I am about to purchase a used old phone for this purpose, So which will be preferable? Sony Ericson? seimens? or samsung?

All of the models of the above makers have built in modem?

How can we search and find which model has this fesility ? Any sites for that?

Or is there any advantage by going and purchasing a GSM modem? instead of a used phone? Will that help in more simple interface or software?
If a modem is preferable what specification I should look for ?

I have to read some local parameters and send SMS from this device and also able to receive and decode sms from other phones using a PIC or AVR.

Hope I am clear

Thanks a lot

with regards
PICstudent

ericoson gms modem

Hello,
If you want to make your life less complicated, just buy a GSM modem with serial port (RS232) and interface it to your micro-controller(you can interface using a minimum of two lines TX,RX). It will be pretty simple to use as the AT commands are easily available on the internet.

gnokii wavecom

I was trying to send AT commands to Nokia 3120 which has Pop Port connector using DLR3 cable but the phone has no reply. I used MobiMB successfully using my DLR3 cable. Is it possible to interface PIC16F877 and Nokia 3120 or other Nokia model which has Pop Port connector to send and receive text messages? Can somebody help me?

buy gsm modem in india

hi,

i m also tring to do this project, it nice to meet here!!!
these days i m using wavecom modem to implement the GPRS link. but if u like to do this link using sms u can easily apply ericsson T10 0r Ericsson T28 phone which are supported direct AT mode, which means u can directly enter AT commands in Hyper terminal. but they are not supported GPRS caz prity old ha!!
if u want to implement this using sms just try cheap ericson phone ! i tried it and successed, but it is not so easy to work with such old phones, most of these phones are available only republish types.
