Matrix solvers in IE3D

I am not able to use PMS or AIMSII solvers(in IE3Dv10.0) which is supposed to reduce the RAM requirement drastically. I am simulating a CPW fed slot antenna structure of dimension 10cmX10cm. IE3D is showing an error of non convergence in AIMSII and failure in differential conversion of parameters in case of PMS. Can anyone help me in this issue
 

Hi, Jossion: The AIMS II normally is good for loosely coupled structures such as antenna array. Please use the GEMS sovler (newly introduced in IE3D 11.1). It is more robust for closely coupled large structure.

Thank you jian but i am not in a position to update my IE3D version since i am a student. I have to work with the same version. Can you help with the same problem in that perspective. Also can you help me with the notations of electric field used in the GUI for Radiation patterns
 

Hi, Jossion: The change for failure for using the AIMS II and AIMS III on a structure not loosely coupled is quite high. Certainly, if you try to set the SD to a bigger value, eventually you will be able to solve it. However, it may require more RAM than the standard matrix solver. Again, the GEMS solver in 11.1 is much more robust. It is good for non-loosely coupled structure as long as they are spreaded.

Regarding the the notation of electric field in pattern calculation, I am not sure whether you are talking about the E-theta and E-phi. E-theta is the E-field in theta direction and E-phi is the field in phi-direction in the spherical system. Did I answer your question?

When E phi is E field in the direction of phi which value of theta will be constant . Is it the one which we mark for phi value check box. How these options can be used to find copolarisation and crosspolarisation.
 

Hi, Jossion: E-theta and E-phi may not be related to constant theta. You can write down a formula for theta-drection as:

theta_unit_vector = ( cos(phi) X + sin(phi) Y ) * cos(theta) - sin(theta) * Z
phi_unit_vector = - sin(phi) X + cos(phi) Y

where X, Y and Z are the unit vectors in cartessian coordinate system. For some traditional antennas, it is easy to define copol and crosspol. However, we have not defined colpol and crosspol in IE3D because the definitions of copol and crosspol are kind of arbitrary and they can not be generalized for all different antennas. Folr a pattern with respect to theta on a constant phi plane, normally E-theta is the copol and the E-phi is the crosspol. For a pattern with respect to phi on a constant theta plane, normally E-phi is the copol and E-theta is the crosspol. Regards.
