Dear Team,

May I know what are the parameters we will tune when we face setup and hold time issues in high speed PCB.

HARI

Hi Barry,

Thank you very much.
If you don't mind could you please elaborate on your answer.
This will be very helpful for a beginner like me.

You’re asking me to tell you everything I know about digital timing and PCB layout in a single post? This is not a simple question; you need to do some reading and then maybe ask some specific questions.

Theres a lot more to PCB layout than “setup and hold timing”. I already gave you a specific answer to your question about that. What don’t you understand about it?

Let's agree that a general description like that you posed doesn't say much about your requirements, one may understand it as something in the Megahertz range or close to Gigahertz. The keywords Barry gave you cover a massive set of information, and this should be enough to encourage you to go deeper on tutorials available out there. Both impedance and length matching are routing requirements for the systems you are working with, and the IC's datasheet will provide you with those parameters. In shorts, imapdance matching avoid signal reflectance, and length matching avoid signal jitter along parallel bus. By the way, most PCB layout CAD tools have such features.
