Can't find Intel Max 10 Development Kit (DK-DEV-10M50-A) on Quartus Prime Lite 20.1.1

Hi,

The Altera (Intel) Max 10 development kit (DK-DEV-10M50-A) features a 10M50DAF484C6GES chip which has 484 pins but the Max 10 development kit shown with Altera as vendor on Quartus Prime Lite 20.1.1 lists 10M50DAF256C7G which has 256 pins as its featured chip (with corresponding I/Os counts).

All other Max 10 boards on the list are already well-known boards.

Is it that Quartus Prime Lite 20.1.1 does not support this development kit or is the device (chip) shown for it a mistake?
 

You should select the device that is actually populated on your version of the evelopment kit. xxES means enegineering sample, an early chip version. In case the ES involves differences to the final production version, it's separately listed in the the Quartus device selection. There may be either minor differences in the timing model or more serious incompatibilties.

If the device you are using has been dropped in the most recent Quartus version, you can use a previous version, select a compatible supported chip version, e.g. C7GES instead of C6GES, try if C6G works either or ask Intel support.

In earlier versions Quartus II, one would select the chip on the dev board and reference the board schematic diagram to assign pins in Pin Planner. Later on, boards were added so we could just select it under device settings and assign names to ports of their top-level entity to correspond to names as populated in Pin Planner. With that one would not need to bother about board schematic diagram but focus on development.

Like you mentioned, I think the best bet would be to use a previous version where I can select the board directly under device settings. Unfortunately, I just uninstalled a previous version and installed 20.1.1.

I was really wondering whether there is a Max 10 development kit by Intel (or Altera back then) that featured a 256-pin device. Or is it truly a 'mistake' in version 20.1, made because the kit also has a 256-pin Max II CPLD for on-board USB Blaster? Maybe I would have to ask Intel Support this or maybe somebody here has used such a kit.
