Underdamping problem in electrical system ?

In the electrical circuits,
why and how the under damping problem occurs in the electrical waveforms ?
What is the reason behind to have a under damping issue in the electrical waveforms ?
How to overcome this problem ?

Both questions are basically the same : Because the system has not elements which damps the system i.e. to waste energy.
How to overcome this problem ?
In electrical systems, a resistor is the one who damps the circuit. The bigger the resistor, the less damped the system.

Re: Underdamping problem in electrical system ?

Hello CataM,

We can add inductor instead of resistor.

Re: Underdamping problem in electrical system ?

Hi,

An inductor does not "waste" the energy. It stores energy and it reemits the energy.
This is exactely what you don't want.

You need a resistor, but you may combine it with an L or C. A series connected C usually prevents from dissipating DC power.

Re: Underdamping problem in electrical system ?

Hello KlausST,

I want to waste the energy in the AC circuit. So, If I add a LC low pass filter before the component. May I overcome a underdamping problem in the AC circuit ?

Otherwise, Can I add a LC filter before the component and adding a resistor after the component. Does it works ?

If I am wrong with those two methods. Please suggest me how I can able to overcome a underdamping problem in the AC circuit ?

To overcome the underdamping problem you should find the transfer function of your system and see what resistor you have to select in order to overcome that problem. It can be placed before the LC filter or after... depends on you and your specifications and etc..

Re: Underdamping problem in electrical system ?

The components will get over heat due to under damping ?
