On the PTS airflow bench Forum, hundreds of members are using a data acquisition system we developed ourselves as a group project. This has run successfully for many years and is in use by hundreds of Forum members all around the world.

It is powered from a 15v dc wall pack that members buy in their own country to suit the local mains supply voltage, frequency, and plug type. All was well, until the introduction of the new smaller switching power supply wall packs.

Many people are now reporting intolerable electrical noise problems with these switching supplies, and the old transformer wall packs are rapidly becoming unobtainable.
All the usual tricks with common mode chokes and bypass capacitors have not been completely successful.

In desperation I am thinking that a 12v ac wall pack driving a bridge rectifier and electrolytic may be an effective solution. Really duplicating what has worked for us before.

These 12v ac transformer wall packs are readily available in Australia, but not in the US I am told ?
Any of you guys from Europe, South America, US, or other regions like to comment on the availability of 12v ac wall packs in your country.

In UK, there are only a very few places where you can get 12V AC mains wall packs now….eg H.Gee shop in Cambridge UK…

…but such shops aren’t advertised, and are hard to find, and most people in UK would have to go to Maplin for a wall pack, and they only stock DC output SMPS types.

Farnell and RS might sell them, however, I have found it’s a waste of time ordering from them to a domestic address, the delivery vans (UPS) just don’t bother delivering to domestic address’s.

So you can indeed get them in uk, eg Cricklewood electronics in London as well as Gee's above....

...but again, few people in UK will know about cricklewood electronics.

Thank you Treez.
We have many Forum members in the UK, and that is the exact kind of information that will be extremely helpful.

Warpspeed, you mentioned a 15vdc wall jack. What amperage? As for the "good-old" transformer-based units you're looking for, what are the voltage & current requirements (minimum & preferred). I may have what you seek.

This powers an LM324 opamp that must be able to swing up to +10v output.
Minimum acceptable dc voltage would be about +13v, but suggest a +15v dc wall pack as minimum.
It also powers a 7805 regulator, total current consumption of everything 85 to 100 mA.

As the old 15v dc 1A transformer rectifier wall packs become extinct, a 12V ac supply hooked up to a bridge should give us about 17v peak and perhaps 15v of dc lightly loaded (I hope). A 15vA transformer should handle it with ease.

Warpspeed, do you have a link for this home brew data acquisition system.
The airflow bench used for flowing automotive cylinder heads is the home brew part.
Some people still use the traditional water manometers.
But a few Forum members got together and came up with a data acquisition and software that is now competitive with top end commercial air flow benches, at a truly affordable price.
Is not a commercial venture in the sense that all the small profit goes into paying for the Forum server and keeping the whole show on the road.
Its all about Forum members helping other Forum members, and its been a very satisfying experience.

The data acquisition system is basically three differential air pressure transducers, with op amp for zero and scaling. That goes to a Chinese USB four channel data acquisition unit. What brings it to life is the excellent Windows software that displays and logs air pressure, airflow, and air velocity.
