Hai
For a remote controll project I am testing the hardware part. I have used 555 in astable mode to generate 38khz frequency. It seems working ,but the tx having only very low (2 feet) range.Any causes or suggessions please.

This may depend on the current that is flowing through the Tx diode, type of diode etc.
You can also try to connect 2, 3 or more diodes in series and this will increase the emitted power (range)

On the other hand check the sensitivity of your receiver ..

Sorry for wasting your time.Actually I was testing the range by sending a steady 38Khz carrier. read the datasheet fully only later. The receiver will not respond to steady carrier ,will filter out it as unwanted signal. Will have to modulate the carrier with the conditions the manufacturer prescribes like minimum 6 clock cycles for a high etc.
thanks for reading
