Hi All,

I have a Garmin 18x PC GPS with 12 Volt Cigarette Lighter Adapter. I want to provide power through a DC voltage source as I don't have a car right now. How would I be connecting positive and negative terminals to this Cigarette lighter adapter?
Thanks in adv.

Use unimer as DC voltmeter in 20V range. Usually center pin is positive in car plug.

Yep, Center pin is the positive and terminal/connector on the body of the outlet is the negative/ground. So, Can I just go ahead and the short the positive of DC source to positive of adapter and negative of DC source to negative of the adapter?

Use a proper DC supply (min 12, max 16 V, min 2A).
The pozitive pole of the adapter is at its end, in the middle (center pin), and the negative is at its side (any of the two springs).
There is a (female) socket for the Cigarette Lighter Adapter too ...

It works.. I connected center pin to the positive terminal of the DC source, shorted the two fins and connected to the ground..
Thanks for the replies!!
